2016 IS WELL INTO ITS FIRST QUARTER AND SO FAR, WE’VE SEEN AN OUTSTANDING MIX OF RUNWAY TRENDS THAT ARE SOON GOING TO CRAWL INTO OUR WARDROBES WITH A TOUCH OF ELEGANCE AND ADD AN ELEMENT OF EXPERIMENTATION INTO OUR ATTIRES. INTERNATIONAL RUNWAY DESIGNERS LIKE GUCCI, ALEXANDER MCQUEEN AND ALBERTA FERRETTI HAVE SERVED UP A SPREAD OF ROMANCE, SOPHISTICATION AND ORNATE DESIGNS THAT ARE EYE-CATCHING. WITH THE SEASON’S VISUALLY BEWITCHING CLOTHES, HOW WOULD YOU SHOP FOR THE COMING SUNNY DAYS AHEAD? FRET NOT, WE’VE BROKEN DOWN THE HOT TRENDS OF 2016 WHERE YOUR WARDROBE WILL GIVE THOSE BLAZING RAYS AND WARM NIGHTS SOME SERIOUS COMPETITION. 2015’S TRENDS HAVE HAD THEIR FAIR SHARE OF LIMELIGHT AND IT’S TIME FOR THEM TO DIE. MAYBE NOT DIE. PERHAPS, JUST GO AWAY FOR A LITTLE WHILE.

Sleepwear as daywear? Yes please!

Take that lingerie out of the boudoir and trot along the pavement like you own it. Yes, seemingly attractive lace coupled with silk and frilly froufrou doesn’t deserve to be hidden within your special drawers. Slip dresses spell risque; you could throw on a sleek blazer by the day and skyhigh heels by the night. It really does pair with
everything.

Frilled and Flounced

Frilled-and-Flounced

From billowy sleeves to frilly necklines and floral mermaid cuts, a dash of Victorian influence never hurt anybody. It’s time to go old school with ruffles and lots and lots of flowers. Spin those fresh blooms with a tinge of high-collar necklines and puffy sleeves and you have yourself a pretty picture to look at!

No time for suede to fade.

If you thought the runways were done with their love affair of the 70’s, then brace yourselves, as suede leads its way through this season again. Think mixed prints and linen dresses layered with suede jackets in order to revive that 70s’ vibe. There’s something extraordinarily stunning about these casual separates in rich neutrals.

You got me dreaming of California

It’s time to embrace the season of light wholeheartedly by rolling out those colours and adding them to your ensemble, hue by hue, making it shine like a kaleidoscope of beauty. From Tommy Hilfiger to Tory Burch, bright solid hues were shown gripping the runway with extraordinary flair. Colourful prints, patchworks, cutworks and flowing silhouettes are going to be perfect to feed your gypsy soul.

Metallic mayhem

Metallic-mayhem

Gorgeous golds, striking silvers and charming coppers reigned the runways in the spectrum of shine. Don’t be afraid to sparkle as you let your inner feisty self out with rust hues coupled with sprinkled glitter. Not one kind of metallic silhouette, but the whole metallic family stood out gloriously. Designers Calvin Klein, Vera Wang, Victoria Beckham and many more put their shiniest foot forward!

Fr,ivolous frongs it’s your time to see the door

Dare we say that this trend was more of an inspirational one rather than a sporting one? A bathing suit with an inseam so high you might as well just call it a thong! From Miley Cyrus’s stage performances to Khloe Kardashian’s vacay images, you couldn’t get those frongs out of your sight. Now, for the sake of our trying-our-best-to-detox schedules and waxing appointments, it’s time to bid farewell to you frongs.

Let’s lace-up everything? Not anymore!

Let’s-lace-up-everything

2015’s preferred way of showing some skin was through cords crisscrossing over dresses, tops and shoes! The lace-up detailing was everywhere with Balmain’s designs leading. If you were a fancy fashion blogger, of course you owned the lace-up ballet flats! Let’s not even get started on its viral Pinterest fashion inspirational images. Let’s just say, this season around, it’s time to embrace the ‘lace’ in lace-ups with structured cuts and silhouettes.

All naked everything; we’re done with you!

All-naked-everything

Those seemingly bare necklines and see-through dresses were quite a hit in 2015 with Beyoncé, Katy Perry and Kim Kardashian sporting seamless styles. However, every trend has its own share of fame and fizzle. This time around, we think we’re seriously done with almost-nakedsilhouettes as 2016 helps us approach fuller and flowy styles with as much élan.

Goodbye jeggings

They seemed like a boon when they came out! It was like a dream come true for everybody to feel fashionable and feel comfortable in their zone at the same time. Ditch those stretchy, elastic-waisted pants and make way for cleaner silhouettes in your wardrobe because if they are ‘jegging pants’, they are NOT pants. Ace those presentations and meetings in nautical prints, minimal accents and leg flattering styles.

Good riddance out-of-control fringe!

Goodbye-jeggings

Dramatic is the sort of detail that gets you noticed like a newly launched Louis Vuitton bag design or aggressive nail art. It’s no surprise that celebrities and budding fashion bloggers were taking to this fringe era. However, this trend no longer packs a punch when several ladies are sporting their out of control fringe styles all at the same time! It’s definitely time to say goodbye to this luxuriously short-lived trend.

Now, leave these less than stellar trends behind and invest in elevated essentials that are the perfect mix of runway inspiration paired with daily wear. Might we add, that it’s acceptable to go over the top as well with marvelous ruffles and extravagant metallic? Sunny days will be here soon and make those trips to the malls worthwhile with a tinge of fashionable trend-worthy indulgence. They’re sure to elevate your look to a whole new level!

If we can’t actually make that soothing trip to Bali or bathe in Grecian waters, we might as well just look like we did, thanks to the amount of pop colours, loose linens, off-shoulders and luxe sleepwear sweeping into our wardrobes this season.
