There are two types of women in the world, those who love fashion and those who don’t. Correct? Wrong. Having spent eight years in the fashion industry, I’ve come across a lot of women who question my choice of career. Women who “aren’t into fashion” feel that the women who are spend a lot of time and money feeding their obsession and are desperate to be a part of the latest trends. However that’s not true.
Every woman has her own perception of fashion. You don’t have to be wearing high-end designer clothes or spend that kind of cash to look like you just walked off the runway. Women who feel that they are not into fashion, spend a good amount of time choosing their clothes as well. Maybe, not as much as the ones who are more into it, but there is a considerable amount of thought in buying every outfit. Long story short, every woman is into fashion. My point is proven every time a woman stands in front of her wardrobe and has the classic ‘I-have-nothing-to-wear’ moment.
Whether you’re the person who follow trends or the person who wears whatever they feel comfortable with, there are certain wardrobe staples which can help even the most nonfashionable being. As you reassess your wardrobe, it’s time to make sure you have foolproof classics.
The Little Black Dress (LBD)
My personal favourite, the little black dress is an outfit that can save you the eternal question of what to wear on so many occasions. It can go from day to night with great ease. In the day, you can pair with flats and shift to heels for the night. It can be sleeveless, have cap sleeves, ¾ length sleeves, V-neck, crew neck or square neck, the LBD is an investment that really gives you your money’s worth.
The black blazer is key in your wardrobe. You can instantly change your look by changing the accessories. It doesn’t need to be ridiculously expensive but the fit does need to work with your body type. If you want to appear taller, choose a blazer that is longer. If you want to accentuate your waist line, make sure it’s fitted in the waist area. You can wear it with dresses, skirts as well as pants. Personalise your jacket by adding your favourite broach to the lapel.
Pair Of Black Pumps
A pair of black pumps go with everything. If you want to own only one pair of black pumps then make sure that they are dressy. Shoes are always easier to dress down than to dress up. When buying any pair of shoes, make sure that they are very comfortable. Shoes usually cost a bit more so make sure that they fit right.
Knee Length Black Skirt
A knee length skirt always gives a great fit and makes the appearance slimmer. Like the LBD, this too can go from a day to night look. Pair it with a formal shirt in the morning and a sleeveless or a halter top in the night which will make it look all dressy. It can be a pencil skirt or an A-line, this is one piece which will take you from season to season.
Denim Everyone should have that pair of jeans that can make you feel sensual enough to wear anywhere at the same time as comfortable to sleep in. Since its inception, jeans is the one item of clothing that has never ever gone out of style. No matter the body type, there is a pair of jeans for every body type. If you have great legs, then opt for the skinny jeans, if you’d like to accentuate your waist then choose the high waisted pair and if you’d like to direct attention away from your waist area, go for the flared option. There is no such thing as owning too many pairs of jeans but if you want to invest in one good one, then go for a darker hue. The darker denim will make it more slimming and is more versatile.
A Pair Of Black Sunglasses
It doesn’t get more Hepburn than a pair of cat eye sunglasses. Perfect for any ensemble, these just complete any look. For the days when you just want to add a bit of glamour, sunglasses always do the trick.
The White Shirt
This is a no brainer. At first glance, your white shirt may look no different than the one your husband or boyfriend wears, but the cuts for the female version are specifically designed to accentuate your best features. Whether you wear it with jeans or pair it with an office skirt, it instantly uplifts your look. Because your collar is usually at eye level, make sure it’s sewn and pressed properly.
The Shoulder Bag
Though I don’t like to call it a fashion investment, a good formal shoulder bag in black leather always adds value to your look. It’s an accessory that shall always be indispensable.
The Basic Lingerie
A seamless look underneath your clothes will always be a great feeling and a comfortable one at that. Always remember to to buy undergarments that fit you well. Usually six out of ten woman are wearing the wrong lingerie. Get yourself a free fitting examination available in every store.
The Red Lipstick
The easiest thing any woman can do is to make herself look put together by just applying that smashing red lipstick. Especially, if you’re the kind to keep the rest of yourself simple. It adds the finishing touch adding the sophistication to the whole look. The colour looks good on any complexion and is universally flattering.
