What is your creative process like? Where does the inspiration come from?
I think about what seems most inspiring to me and create my mood boards. From then on, it’s just a methodical process- colors, fabric, trimmings, toile, toile again, and then the final sample. Inspiration is subjective. For me, it stems from the places I have visited, the people I have met, their culture, my own multicultural upbringing and most importantly, my mood. When I find something attractive, be it a beautiful 16th century cathedral or a white sandy beach, I recreate my own version of it.
What is your personal fashion philosophy? What would we catch you in on a day off?
My personal fashion philosophy is pretty self-explanatory. “Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life”. You will definitely see me dressed up on my off days. I like to start the day right by wearing something I feel amazing in. If I look good, I feel good, whether it’s my day off or not.
Tell us about your first exhibit. Any challenges? Any memorable moments?
Naturally I was very anxious at my first exhibit. I was nervous, but at the same time very excited! The biggest challenge I faced was organising everything by myself and getting to make my vision of the exhibit come to life. However, with the support of my experienced team, the exhibit passed with flying colors! The feedback was great and the sales exceeded my expectations.
Who is a fashion icon today in your opinion? Who would you love to design for?
Some of the women who I admire in the industry, who I would absolutely love to see in a Marina Qureshi design would be Selena Gomez and Sonam Kapoor for sure!
If not fashion, what do you think you’d be doing?
I like to express myself and my creative side, so if it isn’t through fashion, then I would be an interior designer or an architect. Any form of art is a passion of mine.
