Born and raised in the UAE, Reema began her career as a graphic designer before pursuing her passion for haute couture. Now she is the designer of the award winning fashion line Reemami. She took up a two-year fashion course at the prominent French Fashion University ESMOD, based in Dubai, before launching her label Reemami in 2009.
PART OF REEMAMI’S BRAND ETHOS IS TO PUSH THE BOUNDARIES WITH ITS ECLECTIC, BOLD AND PLAYFUL AESTHETICS. THE FABRICS USED BY REEMA ARE LIGHT CREPES IN PASTEL SHADES WITH POPS OF BOLD COLOR SUCH AS MAROON, DARK BLUE, BLACK AND WHITE
A big fan of boxing, Al Banna incorporates elements of the sport in all of her designs with hand-illustrated perspicuous prints and graphics composed of boxing gloves on strings, like puppets, used unconventionally to show that a string controls fighting and anger. Other graphics used are helmets, punching bags, boxing rings, and other elements used in boxing, which have been skillfully incorporated into traditional prints such as stripes, diamonds and checkers merging the two naturally together.
Her Summer Spring 2015 collection features an array of ready-to-wear pieces with a heavy focus on distinct graphics to raise awareness on the current unfortunate wars and fights that are happening in the world we live in today. With the 21st century becoming the era of mass destruction with senseless killings, wars, and so much anger around us, Reemami wanted to rise above and question the current chaos through their collection.
